Fostering Equitable Student Success
The states in the REACH Collaborative and their nearly 160 community colleges were selected to pioneer efforts to increase credential attainment for adult learners of color as a result of their innovative, student-centered pathways and demonstrated commitment to equitable student success.
California: 11 Community Colleges
California’s commitment to equity, adult learners, and guided pathways are in direct alignment with goals of the REACH Collaborative. Eleven community colleges engaging in a complementary Guided Pathways implementation project are poised to integrate REACH strategies into their work. California’s REACH collaborative, a community of practice led by the Success Center for California Community Colleges, will leverage resources from the national network to help colleges implement pathways-based reforms and supports specifically aimed at adult students of color.

The Colorado Community College System (CCCS) and its 13 affiliated colleges are steadfast in their dedication to closing equity gaps. Participation in the REACH Collaborative has further propelled and deepened CCCS's efforts to forge pathways to economic prosperity firmly rooted in principles of racial equity.

State University of New York (SUNY) is committed to enhancing college completion, transfer, and job attainment while striving for racial equity in outcomes. The REACH bolsters the support provided by SUNY’s Office of Community Colleges and Education Pipeline and the work of the New York State Student Success Center which provides leadership for the SUNY Guided Pathways Project. The project focuses on building capacity for colleges to design and implement structured academic and career pathways at scale, for all students. SUNY’s proven expertise makes it an asset for the REACH Collaborative in developing sustainable programs for adults of color pursuing credential pathways.

The North Carolina Community College System’s latest strategic plan, “Leading Through Change” (2022-2026), places a strong emphasis on several REACH-aligned priorities: enhancing access to community colleges, increasing engagement among adult learners, narrowing achievement gaps, and taking a leading role in promoting diversity. Under the leadership of the NC Student Success Center and the executive leadership team at the System Office, REACH funding and resources are bolstering efforts to make these priorities a reality.

The Virginia Community College System is implementing its six-year strategic plan, Opportunity 2027, with a steadfast commitment to fostering equity for Black, LatinX/Hispanic, and Native students. Through targeted initiatives such as Credits2Careers, Guided Pathways, FastForward, and the G3 program, the VCCS has already showcased their effectiveness in improving equitable outcomes for underrepresented learners. The VCCS is determined in building upon the accomplishments of the REACH initiative, with a specific focus on enhancing college completion rates for Black women in healthcare programs and increasing enrollment for Black men, who currently face low and declining participation rates.
